Bogdan and Steve Georgiou

The Thursday Murder Club

Bogdan and Steve Georgiou are friends whose trust is tested and confirmed when they join forces after Gianni Gunduz kills Kazimir. Steve’s role extends beyond sympathy: he accompanies Bogdan in the plan that ends with Gianni’s death and helps make Gianni appear to have fled. Their bond therefore links private grief to practical complicity, while Steve’s established gym and standing in the community provide a striking contrast to the concealed violence behind that public life.

Friendship and the Gym

Steve Georgiou is not presented simply as an associate from Bogdan’s criminal past. He is someone Bogdan describes as a good man, and their connection is reinforced by a shared affection for Kazimir: Steve knew Kazimir and liked him as Bogdan did. That common attachment helps explain why Steve is willing to assist when Bogdan turns his attention to Gianni. The friendship is shown through what Steve does, rather than through a long account of its beginnings.

The gym is the most visible sign of Steve’s life apart from the old criminal circle. When investigators revisit the Tony Curran file, they find that Steve had been associated with Tony Curran’s crew early on, though that involvement did not last long and had not produced grounds to bring him in. He had opened Steve’s Gym long before the investigation and built it into a successful business. The gym is busy, works quietly, and has a good reputation; officers known to Chris Hudson and Donna De Freitas train there. Steve’s public identity is thus not a disguise invented for the investigation: it is a durable, community-facing enterprise that stands alongside his concealed past.

Bogdan’s account connects the gym’s beginnings to money he took after Gianni’s death. He says that he gave Steve the remaining proceeds, describing the transfer as an investment because Steve wanted to open a gym. The account makes the business part of their shared history: Steve’s respectable establishment was supported, at least in Bogdan’s telling, by money taken from Gianni’s criminal holdings. The gym’s legitimacy and the origin of its funding therefore coexist uneasily, without the narrative suggesting that its later reputation is itself false.

Helping Bogdan Take Revenge

After Gianni boasts about shooting Kazimir and making him dig, Bogdan decides to act. He tells Gianni that a friend at Newhaven’s port may have work and money for him, using the prospect of a smuggling arrangement to draw him there. Steve accompanies Bogdan, and Bogdan identifies the port security connection as a cousin of Steve’s who genuinely works there. The arrangement gives the meeting a plausible cover, but the decisive support is Steve’s presence: Bogdan trusts him enough to bring him into a plan whose real purpose is concealed from Gianni.

At the harbor, Bogdan reveals the truth to Gianni and kills him. Steve is there as the plan turns from a lure into an act of revenge. Bogdan’s account then places them together in disposing of the body and returning to Newhaven. The evidence does not specify every choice Steve made before the killing, so his prior knowledge of Bogdan’s full intention remains unstated. What Bogdan does make clear is that Steve stays with him through the aftermath rather than withdrawing when the deception becomes deadly.

Their shared action is rooted in loyalty to Kazimir, but it is also a deliberate breach of the law. Bogdan does not present Steve as an accidental witness or as someone merely providing an introduction: Steve remains an active partner in the sequence that follows Gianni’s death. Their friendship becomes the means by which Bogdan can carry out a private reprisal and then begin controlling how others will understand Gianni’s disappearance.

Concealment, Money, and Consequences

Bogdan and Steve continue working together after they leave the port. They go to Gianni’s house, take his passport, clothes, and valuables, and remove money Bogdan identifies as drug proceeds, some of it belonging to Tony Curran. Bogdan says the amount was about one hundred thousand pounds. He sent half to Kazimir’s family and gave the rest to Steve, connecting the revenge to both material consequences and a transfer intended to help establish Steve’s gym.

The passport becomes central to their effort to make Gianni appear to have left the country. Steve travels to Cyprus using Gianni’s passport, then returns to England on his own. Bogdan describes the trip as easy because no one checks closely. He then anonymously contacts the police and gives them enough information to prompt a raid on Gianni’s house. The missing passport and clothes support the appearance that Gianni has disappeared, while the anonymous report directs suspicion toward Gianni as Kazimir’s killer. Steve’s help is therefore not limited to the harbor: he participates in the practical staging that allows Bogdan’s revenge to be followed by a misleading account of what happened.

A later visit to Steve’s Gym gives this concealed connection a quieter echo. Steve hands Chris Hudson a clear wallet containing five thousand euros and asks him to put it in lost property, saying that someone dropped it and that he does not know who owns it. Steve refuses to keep the cash, explaining that he knows where it has been. The scene does not establish that this money comes from Gianni’s funds, so it cannot be treated as proof of that connection. It does, however, place Steve once again between money and the question of its origin, while his refusal suggests an awareness of what association with unexplained cash can mean.

The Relationship’s Significance

The relationship between Bogdan and Steve is defined by an overlap of affection, loyalty, and criminal action. Their shared regard for Kazimir gives their cooperation an emotional cause, but grief does not make the actions they take lawful or harmless. The sequence also distinguishes their roles: Bogdan devises the deception and describes carrying out the killing, while Steve supplies trust, access, companionship, and practical assistance in concealing what followed.

Steve’s reputation complicates that account without erasing it. His gym is a successful, well-regarded place where people train, and he presents it as a business that takes people in and turns them around. Yet Bogdan’s story reveals that the same man helped him avenge Kazimir and conceal Gianni’s fate. Their friendship is consequently both sustaining and compromising: it makes Steve a source of support for Bogdan, while binding him to the consequences of Bogdan’s retaliation and to the effort to make that retaliation look like an escape.
